most guys I know usually find it best to just stay out of the way and let her decide everything. You know that even if she asks you to pick a venue or something, what that really means is that she already has something in mind

Heh, well, so far this hasn't been too much of a problem. She's been asking my opinion about various things, and I guess that so far I've been making the right choices.

A wedding day is a lot like a Thanksgiving dinner, you put so much time and effort into something that's over in such a short time.
Yeah, it's kind of frustrating, actually. I'm really looking forward to seeing the various friends and family that will be coming to town, but personally I'd rather just elope or something. It would be so much easier and cheaper. I'm all for a big party, but the "industry" really puts the screws to you with wedding stuff -- everything is way more expensive than it really should be. Although, so far we're finding some pretty good deals.

I'm eventually going to have to pop the question myself... It's been about 5 1/2 years for me and my girlfriend and she's been "implying things" about marriage for the last six months.
Ha! Good luck with that.
